Compulsive hoarding is a mental disorder that is just beginning to be understood. As a hoarder, I have acquired things over the years with a specific purpose in mind at the time of the acquisition, used some of those items for their intended purposes, forgotten the goal for different objects, but now that I find that they have outlived their purpose in my life I am struggling to rid myself of those same things.

I loves me a heating pad!

So today was good.

Got a couple loads of laundry done, the dishes done, and most importantly, we got the rest of the crown moulding put up in the workout room downstairs. (It's back spasming work, I tell ya!) We also finished getting the treadmill put together. At this point, we'll be able to use the treadmill, even though the rest of the room isn't quite finished. That will be nice.

Tomorrow, we have a big day planned. It doesn't sound like much, but it seems to take forever! We'll be filling all the little nail holes in the crown moulding and baseboards, caulk around the edges, and paint any part of them that needs it, so the patches don't show. Then we're going to get the mat down under the treadmill and put it in place, and clean up hubby's pull up machine thing that's out on the back porch and bring it downstairs. We're also going to try to cut some extra shelves for a thing we got for him to use as a bookshelf. I don't know, if we'll get to the point of rewiring the outlets and putting up the light fixture or not, but we'll have plenty to do, and we'll have a room that will be ready to use! We're both really looking forward to it!

I asked my husband, if he would mind me sharing this, before I started writing...

This morning when I went in to wake my husband up I decided to count the books he has on the dresser. He said he realized he feels like he needs to have his books around him-that he doesn't know when he'll need the knowledge contained in the books, and he wants to have it at his fingertips. There were 56 books on the dresser. He also keeps books in his work truck, on his work desk and in his locker at work. We're both hoping that having a floor to ceiling area to keep his books will help. And I'm thankful beyond thankful that books are his vice, instead of alcohol, drugs, porn or other women. :)

We're now going to spend some time together relaxing.

Me with my trusty heating pad.

Him with the remote control ... and a book. :)

  1. I agree a thirst for knowledge is better than a thirst for alcohol, but hopefully he can compromise and store them in a norganised manner.Take care back pain sucks!

  2. "and I'm thankful beyond thankful that books are his vice, instead of alcohol, drugs, porn or other women. "

But are any of those books about the above? ;)

Books are a good thing. A bookcase right next to his side of the bed is a great idea.

And I think it's worth noting that the two of you are working together on all this... on the "same page" if you don't mind a book-ish pun.

  3. Oh. And would you mind taking the word verification thing off your comments?
It's a real pain in the ass.

I have been spammed precisely once in more than four years of blogging. Now if you're fond of word verification for other reasons, by all means ignore my request.

    ;)

  4. Every time we move Ian and I spend days going through the books. We have been known to pack them in suitcases and take them on the plane with us..

My dream house is one with an office of floor to ceiling shelves...

  5. My husband doesn't know how to read.

Just kidding! He does however have about 100 Louis Lamour books. He has read a grand total of 1. Out of 100.
He mentioned one time that he would like to start reading Louis Lamour books to his grandfather and ever since then, Grandpa goes to every garage sale and Goodwill in town and buys them. They are just put in boxes and put into our closet. Frustrates me to no end but like you, am thankful it's books and not something else!

  6. Fern - We got an entertainment center thingy that we're going to be putting extra shelves in and along the side of it. He'll have floor to ceiling space to store all his books and have them at his fingertips as soon as he makes a quick jaunt downstairs.

Ami - A bookcase beside the bed would not be a good answer. We would then have books cascading into the bed and we'd wake up dead under an avalanche of philosophy books. And I like the word verification for other reasons. It bugs you. ;) And guaranteed the books are about none of the above. :D

Sabrina - My husband never goes anywhere without his books and his carry-on luggage always weighed more than a grown man when he flew somewhere. And your dream house is in the same neighborhood as my husbands! He's even been known to rewind a movie to look at the bookshelves. He likes to see, if he can recognize any of the books, too.

mrs.b - My husband said that your husband has already read all Louis Lamour books just by reading that one! :) It sounds like his grandfather is a very considerate sweetheart trying to make his grandson happy. That's neat. :)

Welcome to The Closet. Feel free to take off your coat, hang it up, if you can find the space, and sit a spell. I just love your visits. :)
