Compulsive hoarding is a mental disorder that is just beginning to be understood. As a hoarder, I have acquired things over the years with a specific purpose in mind at the time of the acquisition, used some of those items for their intended purposes, forgotten the goal for different objects, but now that I find that they have outlived their purpose in my life I am struggling to rid myself of those same things.

Yay! for Ramblings

11 pairs of jeans
6 gloves
1 backpack
1 pair of jean shorts
3 shammi cleaning cloths
and room for the girls' denim jackets, even though I didn't include them.

That was what was in the first load of laundry in our new washing machine, and even though we had a pretty big top loader before, there's no way I could have fit that many clothes in one load before. I'm in shock at how much I can wash at once, and I'm thrilled! It's already cut the time I've spent in the laundry room down drastically, and we just got the machines on Saturday. I think I'm finally going to be able to get caught up and stay caught up on my laundry now.

Yay!

Because the new washing machine is a front loader, it uses much less water, so our water bill will go down. But the best part is that because it uses so much less water, there is less water to drain out of the tub, which  means there is less water going down the drain. I know you're wondering how long it took me to realize all that, but I really was getting to a point. The fact that there is less water being drained out means that the overflowing drainage pipe behind the washing machine should be a thing of the past!

Double Yay!

I'm still walking on the treadmill. Haven't missed a day. Started Week 7 on Saturday. The first week, I pushed myself hard and was able to complete a total of 1 hour 46 minutes. It was so hard. My fibro flared non-stop, and there were many times I wanted to give up and skip it, but I am important enough to do it for me. So I kept on keepin' on. I just ended the 6th week on Friday. I'd done 6 hours 40 minutes and 9.3 miles total. I'm going to do my best to do no less than an hour a day from now on. I'll keep it at an hour for a couple of weeks before adding anymore time, but I'll be trying to increase the mileage each week.

So. Yeah. I'm happy about that.

Yay! Again.

I've been feeling my age, though. Got my first pair of bifocals almost 2 weeks ago. They're going back today, and I'm going to get a single vision lens. I can't handle them. Every time I wear them, I end up with a horrible headache and a watering eye that drips down my face, not to mention the nausea. I'm thinking that progressive bifocals are just not for me. I may try lined bifocals at some point in the future, but for now, I think I'll just get a pair of reading glasses to use in conjunction with my regular glasses.

The lack of nausea, headaches and drippy eyes will be yet another yay!

Never finished cutting the trees down in the backyard, but I can't breathe around the molds, mildews and pollens that rear their ugly heads this time of year. I don't know when it will happen, but we will get them done.

I got the tomatoes all prepped to freeze and then forgot them in the fridge when everyone was sick. They had to go in the compost bin. But I did get the apples all processed and ended up with 10 pints+ of yummy goodness for my effort. We'll be enjoying them for awhile.

Yay!

And besides it being the time for turkeys and holiday celebrations and such, it's the perfect time for homemade soups. It seems like every year I forget how good homemade soup is, and I get to experience the yumminess anew every Fall. We enjoyed our first homemade soup last week, and it was, well, yummy.

Yay!

I also just hung up the phone. Someone is interested in the bunk beds I've had up on Craigslist for a few weeks. It will be so nice to have the room they're taking up in the garage!

Um. Yay!

And I'm done rambling for now, but I'll be back.

Yay!

Just a typical day. And pictures.

Woke up this morning to Scooter having gastrointestinal difficulties. She stayed home from school, took some Immodium AD and rested. She was feeling better by this afternoon but still tired. Not sure, if she'll go to school tomorrow or not.

Made an appointment for Hopper to go into see the dentist. She broke a crown. Not a porcelain crown, but a
silver one! I would think it would be difficult to break a big old chunk out of a metal crown, but I'm thinking there's a good chance that the teeth grinding that happens at night may have contributed to it. We take her in Wednesday to show them that there is no way they'll be able to work on her in the chair and will instead have to put her under general anesthesia to get her dental work done. We're hoping the surgery will be as soon as next week.

Finished up on the last of the paperwork today for the refinancing. Looks like we'll be closing this week. It will be nice to have it out of the way. Really looking forward to saving a bit of money each month, too. You know. Just in case we need it...

For instance like today when I thought I heard water running, went into the laundry room, and noticed water all over the floor. And all over the ceiling. A pipe had sprung a leak. We now have a neatly repaired pipe and our credit card balance is $320 higher than it was this morning. It could be worse. It could have happened in a room that didn't have an unfinished ceiling and a drain in the floor.

On a good note, I finished up the painting today. I think. I have a little left in my tray that I'm not going to toss out just yet. I'll wait until the current coat on everything is dry and then use what's left for touch up - just in case something needs it. The headboard and footboard may need a little more. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I took a few pictures today...

To the left is the bookshelf turned entertainment center I've been painting.

To the right is the dresser and hutch I've been working on the last few weeks.

We got the bookshelf at a local catalog store that was going out of business for less than $25. I can't remember, if we paid $20, or if we paid $24 for it. Whatever it was, it wasn't much.

The dresser and hutch were given to me by a dear friend years ago. They were in desperate need of a new paint job, and I have to admit I love how they turned out! This would so go in my kitchen, if I had the room. I'm not sure, if I'll be using it to store games or tea party dishes or both, but it will be used. I still have to make little curtains for it or add glass to the doors.

This is what the wall looks like with them on it. We haven't installed the door to the workout room yet. It will obviously be in between these two pieces. It will be a light oak, and it has 15 little windows in it. It's one of the next projects. I just have to finish up the doors first. I'm hoping to stain it soon.

So there you have it. More pictures to come in the next day or two. You know. When I have enough time.

Hopefully.

Ha.

Oh for crying out loud. Again? Seriously?

I'm trying really hard not to complain, because I know that I have it so good in so incredibly many ways, but...I'm going to complain.

I just have to say that I really struggle when it comes to our plumbing. Really.

We are going to have to have the front yard dug up and a new sewer line installed, because ours has tree roots in it that cause it to back up into our laundry room every so many months. We used to be able to snake out the main drain once every 6 to 9 months, and it would just start to back up when we'd need to do it again. However, the professional snake we got is no longer doing enough. We have tree roots coming through our line, and this year, we've had problems with sewage backing up every couple of months. Long gone are the days of a 6 to 9 month reprieve.

Digging up the front yard and replacing the sewer line is going to cost several thousand dollars. Like $6,000 to $12,000. We don't have the money to do it right now, so we're going to take our chances and snake every 6 to 8 weeks with our own snake and try to keep it at bay for a year or so when we're likely able to afford the repairs. That's not the problem right now, though.

Right now, we're having problems with the washing machine backing up out of the drain pipe located behind the washer. It's just enough to make the floor wet under the washer and dryer and several feet over to the one side. And of course, if there's anything on the floor (when isn't there??), it always gets wet, and I've got to try to get things washed and sterilized or thrown out before mildew sets in.

I have two options. One is time intensive. The other is labor intensive.

First, I could sit down in the laundry room and try to stay busy while keeping an eye on the washing machine. I'd need to shut the washer off shortly after it started draining. After leaving the machine off for 30 seconds to a minute, I could then start it again, and hope it didn't back up yet again. I'd have to stay right by the machine, though, so I didn't forget to shut it off when it started draining after the rinse cycle. I'd get very little done, if anything while waiting to shut the machine off, yet I wouldn't be able to leave the laundry room. I have done this in the past, but I absolutely abhor doing so. I hate feeling tethered, and I hate feeling unproductive when I'm in a productive mood.

Option #2 involves more physically. I always ache by the time I'm done. It involves using a hand snake (auger) and feeding 6" to 8" of line at a time down the pipe. Twisting the handle several times to get the line to go down the pipe and then pulling more out. It feels like it takes forever, but it probably only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to get through the entire line. The thing is that it's non-stop movement. By the time I'm done, I can hardly move, because my neck and shoulders hurt so much.

So I stopped with laundry for the night. I'll have my hubby help me tomorrow with cleaning out the line. We'll probably clean the sewer line, too, since it's been awhile.

Maybe then I can get caught up on laundry.

I can dream a dream, right? ;)
