Compulsive hoarding is a mental disorder that is just beginning to be understood. As a hoarder, I have acquired things over the years with a specific purpose in mind at the time of the acquisition, used some of those items for their intended purposes, forgotten the goal for different objects, but now that I find that they have outlived their purpose in my life I am struggling to rid myself of those same things.

I have no words.

My heart is so heavy tonight. I can't seem to shut the television off, yet all I see makes me sad and sucks my breath completely from my chest.

My city is on fire.

My heart goes out to all of those who have been evacuated, which is upwards of 32,000 people as I write this. More evacuation orders have just been published, and the numbers have not been added to the total.

They have no idea yet how many buildings have burned to the ground. The historic Flying W Ranch is now gone. Kissing Camels, the famous rock structure in Garden of the Gods appears to have been kissed by flame, and the housing area behind is being evacuated.

I am so saddened by this.

I feel helpless as I watch the town go down around me.

Please pray for the people of Colorado Springs.

  1. Have you been evacuated yet? I pray for your safety and for those around you. My sister lives in Aurora, Colorado. I need to check in with her.

    1. No. Thankfully, we're not in the evacuation areas. Thank you for your prayers. Unfortunately, I'm afraid there will be a lot of problems from the smoke in the air - especially now that the fire has moved into housing and is no longer burning just wood. The chemicals involved in multiple houses going down in flames is scary.

I don't believe the people in Aurora are in danger from fires right now, but it's always good to check in with family. I hope she is, and continues to be, safe.

  2. Judy:

I have been praying for a few days now over this situation. I hope and pray rain comes and those firefighters get a break. We have a friend from WA state out there fighting the Waldo fire.

I am also praying for the people who have lost homes, have a warning their home is is danger, and for those who are watching all this come down.

Take care and please let us know you are safe.

    1. Thank you, Shari. Please thank your friend for fighting alongside the other firefighters for our city. We appreciate it so much!

Unfortunately, the fire marshal explained that rain is not necessarily a good thing for a fire like this. It will have winds that come with it, and they will fan the flames from many different directions making the fire even more unpredictable. Plus there is the probability for lightening, and it's almost guaranteed in Colorado Springs. If I remember correctly, the Springs has the second highest number of lightening strikes per year in the nation. If a storm actually produces enough rain to make a difference, then we're looking at flash flooding. It feels so... hopeless.

Thank you for your prayers. I can't tell you how much it means.

    2. I hadn't thought of those ramifications, Judy! That must seem so scary! I will continue to pray.

Welcome to The Closet. Feel free to take off your coat, hang it up, if you can find the space, and sit a spell. I just love your visits. :)
